Are you a descendant of William John Webb-Wagg and Ethel Adeline Swanson?

William John Webb-Wagg (1873 to 1933) We're looking for cousins in this line who'd be prepared to take an AncestryDNA test?  If you're interested please contact me at chrisw9953@gmail.com. Many of the Webb-Wagg cousins have taken DNA tests that prove our genetic link back to William Webb-Wagg and Sarah Turner.  Linda, a descendant of their son, William, has taken an AncestryDNA test.  William married Ethel Swanson in 1895 in Sydney.  Linda's keen to work with other descendants of William and Ethel to see if genetic genealogy throws any light on Ethel's parents - Swan Swanson and Susan Kelly.   I t's been hard to locate Swan (or Sven) and Susan's families in Sweden and Ireland, respectively.  Swan possibly arrived in Sydney as a seaman in 1871, the year before his marriage to Susan.  But little more is know about either of them apart from their marriage on 8 January 1872 at St Patricks Church Hill, Sydney and the birth of their two daughters - E...

The Golden State Killer and DNA

You've probably heard how DNA was used to apprehend the alleged Golden State Killer. Knowing that I use genetic genealogy in my family history research, friends and family have spoken to me about how this unfolded. Upfront, I should say that the Police didn't use one of the commercial testing companies like AncestryDNA. They used  GEDmatch.com  which allows people to upload their DNA data from the commercial testing companies to a common platform. Roberta Estes, a US based gene tic genealogist, has published a very detailed article today that some may be interested in reading. Roberta makes the point that there's been little coverage of the same process being followed to identify a murder victim just 13 days earlier. The victim, known as the Buckskin Girl, was found in 1981 and identified as 21 year old Marcia Lenore King earlier in the month. At the end of the article, Roberta details why she's keeping her DNA online. Mine's staying online as well. Plea...

The Webb Wagg and Trickett connection is supported by DNA!

Back in May, there were posts about the Sarah Wagg (nee Turner) and Jane Trickett (nee Turner) and their parents George Turner and Mary Hand. The Turners, The Tricketts and The Webb Waggs George Turner - Father of Sarah Wagg and Jane Trickett A bit of a recap of what we've found to date.... With traditional family history research, we know of two children from George and Mary's marriage - Sarah born on 21 October 1832 and Jane born about 1841.  We're still trying to locate Jane's birth  registration - elusive in spite of much searching and money spent on transcripts!  Jane's birth date is based on her death registration.   We're still searching for information on Mary Hand.  This will be covered in a later post... George Turner died in 1847 when Sarah was 15 and Jane was about 6.  There's no evidence that Mary was part of the girls life at this time.  Jane was a witness at Sara...
